East Stroudsburg Softball Little League (ESSLL) is a chartered league of Little League International. This means our rules, game play, and safety guidelines all follow Little League’s official standards.

Little League Softball Rules

Each year, Little League provides its leagues with the most current rules, regulations, and operating policies. These rulebooks define how the program runs and help ensure a consistent and safe experience for players.

At ESSLL:

• Coaches are provided with the most current rulebooks.
• Families and volunteers are encouraged to review the rules so they understand how the game is governed.

Free Rulebook App

Little League publishes a free Rulebook App containing the Official Regulations, Playing Rules, and Operating Policies for Baseball, Softball, and Challenger. The app is updated annually and is approved for use in the dugout.

It is important for all volunteers and parents to be familiar with the most up-to-date regulations, playing rules, and policies for Little League Softball.

The Basics of Softball

Whether your player is brand new to softball or has been playing for years, reviewing the basics is always helpful. Even the greatest athletes in the world regularly return to fundamentals to stay sharp.

Little League International has teamed up with DICK’S Sporting Goods to create “The Basics” — a free online program that covers:

• Fundamental softball skills (throwing, catching, fielding, hitting)
• How to run the bases and move on the field
• Common softball language and terminology
• Backyard tips and drills for families and coaches

How to Use These Resources

• Families: Use the Rulebook App and The Basics videos to better understand what your player is learning and how the game works. It makes watching games more fun and less confusing.
• Players: Revisit fundamentals between practices and games. Pick one skill at a time and work on it in short sessions.
• Coaches: Share specific videos or sections with players as “homework” or use them to reinforce what you are teaching at practice.
