Tryouts & Experience
Do I have to try out to join a team?
For our recreational program, there are no traditional “cuts” style tryouts. You register
during the open registration window and are placed on a team. We may use evaluations to help with placement,
safety, and competitive balance.
Any changes to evaluations or tryouts will be clearly communicated on our
Spring 2026 Registration page.
I've never played before. Is that a problem?
Not at all. New players are absolutely welcome in ESSLL. Many of our most confident players started with
no experience. Our coaches and volunteers focus on teaching fundamentals and building confidence at every level.
Ages & Eligibility
How old do I need to be to play?
Per Little League rules, girls ages 4 through 16 are eligible to play in ESSLL. Little League
uses league age, based on your age on December 31 prior to the spring season.

What Do I Need to Join?
To be part of East Stroudsburg Softball Little League, you will need:
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Effort and commitment to your team (softball is a team sport)
- Regular attendance at practices and games
- Completed registration during the registration window

We will do our best to help. ESSLL never wants a girl to miss out on playing softball due to finances.
Equipment Basics
In general, players should have:
- Softball cleats (rubber for Instructionals, Minors, Majors; metal allowed in Seniors)
- A softball glove
- A fielding face mask
- A labeled water bottle
- Comfortable athletic clothing suitable for softball
If you choose to purchase a bat, it must be ASA-compliant and meet Little League standards:

Practices, Games & Seasons
How often do you practice?
Most teams practice around two evenings per week, especially early in the season. Exact
practice schedules depend on the division, coach availability, and field availability.
How often are games played?
You can expect roughly two games per week, a mix of weeknights and weekends. Schedules may
be adjusted for weather, make-up games, and district requirements.
What are the typical season timeframes?
- Spring Season: Usually April through June (weather dependent).
- Fall Season: Usually late August through late October.
- Winter Clinics: Typically January through early spring.

We want your softball experience to be positive and rewarding. Talent and skill can get you on the field.
A great attitude, effort, and teamwork make you a true success.
Work hard, be a great teammate, and remember that every practice and game is a chance to learn, grow, and have fun.
