East Stroudsburg Softball Little League (ESSLL) is committed to supporting players both on and off the field. As our athletes prepare for life after high school, we are honored to help them take the next step in their education.

The Coach Val Lichtenstein Memorial Scholarship was created to honor a beloved ESSLL coach whose kindness, dedication, humor, and spirit inspired countless young athletes. This scholarship recognizes seniors who demonstrate perseverance, courage, integrity, and sportsmanship in their daily lives.

Proceeds from the annual Coach Val Memorial Tournament directly support this scholarship fund.

2026 Scholarship Details

The 2026 scholarship cycle will follow this general timeline:

• Application opens: March 1, 2026
• Application closes: May 15, 2026 (11:59 PM Eastern)
• Decision period: Within one month after the application closes
• Notification of awardees: On or before June 30, 2026
• Scholarship disbursement: Within 60 days of award notification

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the 2026 Coach Val Lichtenstein Memorial Scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a member of the ESASD or Notre Dame High School Class of 2026
• Be a current or former ESSLL player in good standing
• Plan to attend an accredited college, university, or trade school within one year of receiving the scholarship

Decision Process

The ESSLL Board uses a fair, anonymized review process to select scholarship recipients.

• All essays are reviewed without identifying information.
• Board members who are related to an applicant are recused from review and voting.
• All decisions made by the ESSLL Board are final.

• A completed online scholarship application.
• A thoughtful essay describing how you strengthen your community and how you embody Coach Val’s traits: kindness, hard work, dedication, motivation, and sportsmanship.
